At last – after almost one month with minimal computer access and effectively no internet apart from email all our computers – and our Heritage catalogue – are back up and running as normal.
Thank you to everyone for their patience with us during the downtime – the IT Department supplied us with one laptop with access to our Heritage database. We are not given passwords to the pwf system so cannot use those except for webmail and the Newton Catalogue (which need no password).
Apparently the server on which we were running was attacked or compromised in a serious way – but we havenot been told in any detail what the cause was. Someone hacking into our library system, presumably, but to what end?
