Humanities ebooks trial

News from Sarah Stamford, Librarian at Selwyn College and ebooks@cambridge Project Manager:

HEB LogoFree trial access to almost 2,800 ebooks in the humanities is on offer to all students and staff during August and September through Humanities E-Book (HEB) from The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS). HEB, to quote from an excellent and very favourable review, is said to be ‘one of the best—if not the best—electronically accessible sites in the humanities’. That review is worth reading in full if you are interested in the issues surrounding the move to digital ‘eresources’ which is now gathering pace amongst books and in the humanities, notwithstanding the ‘elephant in the room’: Google Books.

The books included in HEB are ‘high-quality books in the Humanities, recommended and reviewed by scholars’. You can browse the site for free, but to access full text you need a login and password. You can request these via this blog or by emailing Homerton College Library. You must provide an @cam email address.
