Legal deposit for electronic publications: saving the nation’s digital memory

Billions of websites, including public tweets and Facebook posts, now come under the scope of legal deposit, and will therefore be collected by Cambridge University Library and the five other Legal Deposit libraries in the UK (the British Library, the Bodleian, the National Library of Scotland, the National Library of Wales and Trinity College Library in Dublin).

Researchers in Cambridge will be able to access the electronic legal deposit material at dedicated PCs in the University Library and its Affiliated Libraries. The legal deposit regulations restrict copying or downloading of the electronic publications.

You can the full announcement on the University Library News page, and the UL’s website also has lots of information about legal deposit.
